IVSA Global
The International Veterinary Students’ Association (IVSA) is a nonprofit organization (NPO) run by volunteer veterinary students that was founded in 1953. The principle of IVSA is “to benefit the animals and people of the world by harnessing the potential and dedication of veterinary students to promote the international application of veterinary skills, education and knowledge”. IVSA helps to expand the worldwide collaboration of over thirty thousand students, enriching their student experience and improving their skills as future veterinarians. This is achieved by arranging annual meetings (congresses and symposia), facilitating exchanges between our member organizations (MOs), many projects and educational opportunities focusing on animal welfare, one health, education, soft skills and wellness.
The Development Fund
The development fund (DF) is one of the main ways for the IVSA to achieve its projects and principles as e.g. the sharing of knowledge and science of veterinary students all over the world. Created in 1981 to help underprivileged faculties around the world, the DF has assisted many students improving their education and improving the health and welfare of the animals they care for and people that rely upon them. This is reached by several projects, sponsorships, reduced fee spots for official meetings or membership fee funds given by the DF every year. The income depends on financial donations, student activities (e.g. the live and silent auctions at congresses at symposia), merchandise and other fund-raising activities. It is also helped by donations of equipment, services and is assisted by similar organizations.
The Standing Committees
To harness the education and interests of veterinary medicine students all around the world, the IVSA has various standing committees that aim to raise awareness and share recent information and ideas. Each of the committees is run and managed by member students. Any IVSA member can apply to be a part of any committee that attract their interest. The committees and working groups create projects, that will improve IVSA members knowledge in that area. Many of the committees and working groups work with globally recognized organizations to bring the best to each member.
